Police Log: Elderly Woman Struck By Car Leaving Church Christmas Eve

A 77-year-old woman was injured when she was struck by a vehicle, while leaving a Christmas Eve service at St. William Church, Thursday evening.
According to police, the driver did stop following the accident. The victim was taken to Lowell General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A section of Main Street was shut down for more than an hour while emergency crews responded to the accident and tended to the victim.
No charges or citations were immediately issued. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

  • Charles W. Dawkins, III, 165 Smith St., #1 Lowell, was arrested Dec. 23 and charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, making an illegal u-turn and a marked lanes violation.
  • Karen A. LaPointe, 51, 205 Middlesex St., Apt. 204, Lowell, was arrested Dec. 21 on a warrant for shoplifting.
  • Christopher E. Raicsics, 41, 12 Villa Roma Drive, Tewksbury, was rrested Dec. 21 and charged with failure to stop for a police officer, lights violation, failure to have a license in possession, failure to have registration in possession.
  • Joao Gilmargoncalves, 52, 53 Pleasant St., Lowell, was arrested Dec. 21on a warrant for an unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 23, 9:10 a.m. -- A Trull Road resident called to say there was a dog in his yard that appeared to be ill and foaming at the mouth. Animal Control was notified and responded. The dog could not be located.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1:20 p.m. -- A Benson Road resident called police and reported that a table saw and a generator had been stolen from his father's home. An officer responded to the scene and detective was requested to take fingerprints. A report was filed.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 22, 7:23 p.m. -- Dispatch received multiple 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of North Street and East Street. Full medical and police response. One person was taken by ambulance to LGH Saints Campus for treatment of injuries.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2:52 p.m. -- A 911 caller reported a pedestrian accident at 10 Main St., Stadium Plaza. Four officers were sent to the scene. One person was taken to LGH Saints Campus for treatment of injuries.
  • Thursday, Dec. 17, 6 p.m. -- A clerk at the Mobil Stadium Plaza, 2 Main St., called police to report a customer had just paid with a counterfeit $100 bill. Two officers were sent to the scene. A report was filed.
