Ryan School 5th Graders Participate In STEAM Museum
On Monday, Dec. 7, the 5th graders at the Ryan School participated in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) Museum! This program, sponsored by the Ryan PAC, took place in the Ryan Gym from 8:30-2 pm. Students and teachers visited the STEAM Museum with their class and participate in a variety of interactive STEAM related exhibits.
These exhibits range from building an arch to programming a robot to 3D printing! Students were encouraged to explore the museum at their own pace and manage their time between stations that appeal to their individual interests. The exhibits support the student's science and math curriculum but also expose them to a variety of high-tech fields of student.
Bill Hart, Assistant Principal of the Ryan School said, “The STEAM Museum was scheduled by our outstanding PAC to further supplement our Science curriculum. Students were introduced to robots, built with gears, powered a light bulb and watched a 3D printer in action. The hands on activities had teachers and students engaged for the entire hour visit”.
The Science curriculum has been enhanced by the Tewksbury Public Schools with the help from the Tewksbury Education Foundation. Purchases such as 3D printers help create a real world science experience for the students and teachers. The Community Services Department will create an after school science program at the Ryan using the 3D printer.
