With less than a month to go before the Iowa Caucuses, the Merrimack Valley is stepping into the spotlight of the race for the Republican Presidential nomination.
GOP frontrunner Donald Trump will be in Lowell this evening for a rally at the Tsongas Arena starting at 7 p.m.
The Boston Herald is reporting that several groups, including Community Advocates for Justice and Equality, Black Lives Matter and UMass-Lowell student groups, will be on hand to protest the appearance.
The event is free to the public but tickets are limited. To register to attend the event, you can click here.
According to the poll of polls on RealClearPolitics.Com, Trump currently holds a commanding lead among GOP hopefuls with 35 percent support. Ted Cruz is a distant second at 19.5 percent, with Marco Rubio third at 11.5 percent.
But in Iowa, which will hold the first-in-the-nation caucuses on Feb. 1, the numbers are quite different, with Cruz leading Trump, 31-27.4 percent.
In New Hampshire, Real Clear Politics has Trump leading with 26.3 percent, with Rubio second at 13.3 percent and Cruz third at 12 percent.
