BILLERICA – Brendan O’Flaherty and Brenna Ferreira were named Seniors of the Month for November at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School.
A Wilmington resident, O’Flaherty is a well-rounded member of the student body, excelling both academically and athletically.
With experience in football, basketball and baseball during his high school career, O’Flaherty truly shines on the baseball field, where he suits up both for the Rams and for the Billerica Post 268 Legion team in the summer time. He was a Commonwealth Athletic Conference all star last year for Shawsheen.
He’s a big hit in the classroom as well.
An honor roll student, O’Flaherty is ranked in the top 10 for his class with a 3.95 grade point average. He’s been active in SkillsUSA competitions and Shawsheen’s cooperative education program. O’Flaherty also spends plenty of time volunteering at organizations including Winchester Hospital, Jim McNally’s boxing and his local church.
For the future, O’Flaherty plans to put his health assisting studies to good use. He wants to earn his nursing degree in college and become a physician’s assistant.
Ferriera is one of the school’s top students in culinary arts.
The Tewksbury resident has her sights set firmly on a career in the skill that she crafted at Shawsheen as she hopes to earn a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts Management in college.
She’ll leave high school with an impressive resume that includes employment through Shawsheen’s cooperative education program at JT Cakes in Tewksbury and works at Tewksbury Country Club.
The honor roll student has an impressive academic record as well. She’s a member of the National Honor Society, has competed in SkillsUSA and has earned several scholarships, including one from Johnson and Wales University.
When she’s not cooking or studying, Ferriera stays busy with interesting and worthwhile activities and volunteering duties.
At Shawsheen, Ferriera has been a freshman orientation leader and senior culinary representative while her volunteering has included the Tewksbury Food Pantry and several organizations to help cancer patients and research such as the Relay for Life, Lucy’s Love Bus and the Tanner “Ta Ta” Foundation in Woburn.
