Virginia F. Pittsley, 75
TEWKSBURY: Virginia F. “Ginny” (Almeida) Pittsley, age 75, of Parrish, FL, a former longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away, surrounded by family, at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota, FL on Friday, January 1, 2016.
She was the beloved wife of Rufus F. Pittsley, Sr. with whom she celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on July 11, 2015.
Born in New Bedford, MA on January 1, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Almeida. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Almeida.
Ginny was raised in New Bedford and attended and graduated from New Bedford public schools.
Prior to her retirement in 2002, she was employed as a mechanical assembler for Vaisala, Inc. of Woburn, where she worked for 19 years.
In 1968, Ginny and her husband moved from Somerville to Tewksbury, where they raised their four children.
Ginny enjoyed bingo, gardening, playing cards and being surrounded by her family, most especially her grandchildren, and many friends in MA and in Florida.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Rufus F. Pittsley, Jr. and his wife Candice of Tewksbury, Carl W. Pittsley and his wife Mary of Billerica, Joanne B. Walsh and her husband Ed of Salem, NH, and Luann Mitchell of Wilmington, MA; seven grandchildren, Jared, Stephanie, and Jeremey Pittsley, Alex and Cameron Walsh, Alyssa Mitchell, and Eddie Mitchell, III. Ginny also leaves behind three great grandchildren, many extended family members and loving friends.
Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 7, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241 and/or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101.
