Just three days into the 2016 Tewksbury Municipal Election season and it is already shaping up to be an entertaining and exciting few months.
Four candidates have already taken out nomination papers for two seats on the Board of Selectmen and four more have taken out papers for two seats up for grabs on the School Committee.
The name that is garnering the most attention thus far is Anne-Marie Stronach. The former selectman is seeking to reclaim the seat on the board that she walked away from three years ago. But to do so, she will have to be able to unseat either Selectman Todd Johnson or Selectman Jim Wentworth, both of whom have taken out nomination papers seeking re-election.
Robert Rosa has also taken out nomination papers in the race for selectman, as well. There are also indications that former Finance Committee Chair Thomas Cooke is considering a run.
Krissy Polimeno, Chairperson of the School Committee, has taken out papers and will be seeking a third three-year term in office. But it won't be an easy road. Potential challengers Keith Sullivan, Arthy Bennett and Cheryl Garrity have already taken out nomination papers.
Jayne Miller, who was named to serve out the final year of Lisa Puccia's term, has not yet taken out papers and has not yet announced if she will be seeking a full term.
Others who have taken out nomination papers in the fist two days include incumbent Marc DiFruscia seeking re-election to the Housing Authority and Planning Board Chairman Stephen Johnson seeking re-election.
Nomination papers for Tewksbury town offices are available at the Town Clerk’s Office, Town Hall, 1009 Main St.
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Offices open for election in the year 2016 are:
  • 2 positions on the Board of Selectmen (3 year term)
  • 2 positions on the School Committee (3 year term)
  • 1 position on the Planning Board (5 year term)
  • 2 positions for Library Trustee (3 year term)
  • 2 positions on the Board of Health (3 year term)
  • 1 position on the Housing Authority (5 year term)
  • 1 position on the Shawsheen Regional Technical High School Committee
The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The last day for candidates to file their nomination papers is Tuesday, February 16, 2016 before 5:00 PM, at the Town Clerk’s Office, Town Hall, 1009 Main Street. FIFTY (50) valid registered Tewksbury voter’s signatures and addresses are required.
