This week's Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week is a genuine American Hero, a young man who chose serve his country by enlisting in the military after high school and has a goal of serving his community as a Police Officer.

Just 19 years old, Peter Brekalis Jr. is a source of pride and inspiration for both his family and his hometown.

Peter was nominated to be the Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week by his mother, Karen. Her email read, in part:

I’d like to nominate my son Peter Brekalis Jr. for the person of the week. He currently an Active Duty Army Soldier stationed in South Korea. He’s an MP, which stands for Military Police.

He’s wanted to be an “Army Man and a Police Man” since he was in third grade, he never once waffled or changed his mind. So in the Army he’s both an Army man and a Police man. Peter is a TMHS 2014 Graduate. When he was a senior at TMHS he did an internship at the Tewksbury Police station, and that made him want to be a police officer even more. Peter left for Army Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri two days after he turned 18 years old in August of 2014 (He is now 19 years old). MP Training is Twenty Weeks long. His graduation was in January 2015 – our family went to Missouri for his graduation. Peter left for South Korea two days after graduation in January. He was recently able to take leave in October to come home for ten days (he surprised his father – but the rest of us knew he was coming home).

Peter is the youngest of three children, he has two sisters Kristin, 24 & Kimberly, 21. When he is home he lives with his sisters and his father Peter (Sr.) and I in our Tewksbury home.

He is also taking online college classes to obtain his degree in Criminal Justice. The Army will only let him take one class at a time because he’s active duty and so it won’t be too much along with his MP duties in South Korea.

For being named Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week, Peter Brekalis Jr. will receive a gift card to Wamesit Lanes Family Entertainment Center, Route 38, Tewksbury.
