As a wife and the mother of two young children Cheryl Barnes has plenty on her plate to keep her busy.
But Barnes finds time to volunteer in the Tewksbury schools, with scouts, her church and multiple town committees. Her dedication and selflessness is why Barnes is this week's Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week!
Barnes and her husband, Michael, have lived in Tewksbury for 11 years. The couple has a 7-year-old daughter, Lydia, and a 9-year-old son, Tyler.
According to Barnes, her volunteerism stems from a desire to give back to the community that she and her husband chose to call home.
"I think, being passionate about the town, you want to help the community and be involved," she said. "The people of Tewksbury are really passionate about the town and look ahead toward the growth of the town."
Barnes describes her clan as a "Tewksbury hockey family." With two children playing the game, she spends a great deal of time at the Breakaway Ice Center and driving to road road games.
Barnes was nominated to be Person of the Week by Paige Impink. In her nomination email, Impink described a person that was always putting the needs of others ahead of her own.
I would like to nominate Cheryl Barnes for person of the week. Cheryl’s volunteerism is a model for others. Her efforts are focused on children and supporting activities that promote citizenship and good values. She involves her children, Tyler and Lydia, and with the support of her husband, Mike, is the best example of “making it all work” in our community. This recognition is just a small ‘thank you’ for her ongoing work with the schools, Scouts, church and town.
Cheryl is an aide at the Dewing School, a Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school teacher, Girl Scout leader, PAC member, library volunteer, and has participated in our town events such as Clean UP Day and the Playground Committee. I am sure there are even more things I am not even aware of!
For being the Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week, Barnes receives a gift card to Wamesit Lanes Family Entertainment Center.
