Tewksbury High senior Brok Dokos (right) is the Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week. Shown with Dokos is Tony Marsilio, director of Food and Beverage Services at Wamesit Lanes.
For 12 years, Broc Dokos has practiced his craft on the wrestling mats, mastering holds, takedowns and escapes. On Saturday, his dedication and thousands of hours of practice, paid off when he captured the Division 2 State Championship over the weekend in Marshfield.
"I really wasn't that good until I got to high school," said Dokos, who lives with his father and younger sister. The desire to improve brought Dokos to various camps and clinic, where he worked to get stronger and improve his skills.
At the Division 2 States, Dokos was dominant, winning all four of his matches by pin fall, with none of the matches going longer than three minutes. One of his victims, Dylan Boothe of Concord-Carlisle, was 30-0 this season before falling to Dokos in the semifinals.
Dokos, now 38-3 on the season, advances to the All-State Tournament this weekend in Reading, where he has some unfinished business. He qualified for the All-State Meet last year but had to withdraw after sustaining an injury.
If Dokos can place in the top 4 at All-States, he will advance to the New England Championships in Rhode Island.
After that, Dokos will be taking his wrestling skills to Iowa Lakes Community College, where he will begin his path toward a degree in Criminal Justice.
For being named Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week, Dokos receives a gift card to Wamesit Lanes Family Entertainment Center.
