Feb 28, 2016 02:23PM ● By Bill Gilman

The preliminaries are over. Now it's time to get serious.
After successful regular seasons, the Tewksbury High boys and the Tewksbury/Methuen girls hockey teams are gearing up for the start of the post season.
The Redmen dropped their regular season finale to Wilmington but still ended the season at 13-5-2, with a MVC/DCL Division 2 championship to their credit.
Tewksbury earned the No. 3 seed in the 16-team Division 2 North Sectional, behind Marblehead (21-0-1) and North Reading (13-4-3). The Redmen will open tournament play with a First Round game against No. 14 Revere/Malden (9-9-2) on Tuesday, March 1, 8 p.m. at Hallenborg Rink in Billerica.
With a win, Tewksbury would advance to the Quarterfinals against either No. 6 Gloucester (12-5-3) or No. 11 North Andover (12-8-2). Date and location are TBA.
The Tewksbury/Methuen girls put together another brilliant regular season, earning the No. 1 Seed in the 28-team Division 2 State Tournament with a record of 16-1-3.
The Red Rangers earned a Preliminary Round bye and will open play in the First Round on Saturday, March 5 at 5:50 p.m. at Methuen High, against either No. 16 Dennis-Yarmouth (13-7-1) or No. 17 Longmeadow (11-6-1). In either case, the Red Rangers will have the advantage of playing against a team that will be coming off a two-hour bus ride.
