A Dracut man and a Shirley woman are facing multiple drug charges after being arrested by Tewksbury Police on Sunday.

Peter Gifton, 79, of 20 Glenn Ave, Dracut is charged with distribution of heroin, possession of heroin and possession of methadone without a prescription. Stephanie Hancock, 28, of 114B Squannacook Rd, Shirley, is charged with possession of heroin, failure to stop for police and failure to signal.

According to Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan, earlier this month TPD detectives began investigating a tip that a male was selling drugs at the Motel 6, room 226.  On Sunday, a motor vehicle stop of Hancock, after she initially failed to stop for police, was conducted after she exited room 226.

Detectives were able to locate heroin in Hancock's possession and confirm that Gifton had sold it to her.

When detectives met with Gifton at the Motel 6, additional heroin and methadone were located.  Both were placed under arrest.

Both suspects were due to be arraigned Monday at Lowell District Court.
