Election 2016 Endorsement: Polimeno Deserves To Be Re-Elected To The School Committee

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of Krissy Polimeno and her appointment to the Tewksbury School Committee.  As a parent of four children in the district I know how important it is to have a strong person acting as a voice for our children and their best interests.

I have had the opportunity to get to know Krissy.  It was she who reached out to me when she learned that I was having some struggles with special education issues.  She truly wanted to learn what my challenges were and how she could help bridge the gap. She was an active listener and didn’t pay lip service to gain another person in her corner as she already has many.  She educated me on certain processes and I educated her on what challenges families face when forced to “negotiate” for something most of us take for granted. It is no secret that there has been many challenging situations for special education students and families within this district and it would be unrealistic to expect that everyone will always be satisfied when it comes to available programming, staff, and budgetary constraints.  I do believe that Krissy takes into account the needs of ALL children when voting and making decisions on behalf of the district.

I also had the pleasure of serving with Krissy on the Superintendent Search Committee. I was impressed with her commitment to the process, her thoughtfulness in preparing her questions and her knowledge base surrounding building construction, contract negotiations and educational standards. None of it went unnoticed and I believe all of it will continue to serve the district well as we face some real challenges with regards to building construction, educational standards as well as how our district prepares our students for the workforce and beyond.  It is important to have someone on our board that is knowledgeable and will work collaboratively with our community stakeholders as we move forward in carefully building our next elementary school(s). This building will be vital in preparing our students in a 21st century learning environment to become the very best learners they can be. Krissy’s experience in building our beautiful new high school will be crucial as we embark on this endeavor.

Krissy brings vision, expertise and dedication to the Tewksbury Public Schools. I know that she wants every child to have the same support and success that she desires for her own children. Please join with me in April to make sure that Krissy Polimeno retains her seat on the Tewksbury School Committee.
