Virginia Desmond, Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week, is presented with a gift card by Wamesit Lanes Director of Sales Loretta Ryan.
One could say Virginia Desmond is not exactly the retiring type.
After a half-century of dedicated service as a nurse, Desmond would certainly deserve the chance to just kick back and relax.
But that's not who she is.
She continues to give of herself, displaying compassion and caring to those who need help.
For this reason, Virginia Desmond is this week's Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week!
Desmond was nominated by her daughters, Michelle O’Neill & Nancy Nastasi. their nomination e-mail reads as follows:
Virginia Desmond goes above and beyond to support the well-being of Tewksbury residents. A Nurse Practitioner with 49 years of experience, she then served as the Tewksbury Public health nurse based out of the Tewksbury Senior Center for 15 years. If you have attended the flu clinic in Tewksbury, she was most likely the gentle hand to do so. Virginia retired in 2013. This did not stop her from supporting Tewksbury residents still in need. She continues to support residents by taking them to doctor visits and medical appointments. She makes home visits and helps with independent needs. She has supported loved ones while their family members were in hospice and helped with end of life arrangements. On more than one occasion she has saved the lives of residents by getting them the care they needed and continued checking in with them for after care. She is a prominent member of our town. A list of activities is as follows:

-- Wamesit Senior bowling league
-- Swinging Seniors Choir
-- Chairperson of the council on aging board
-- Tewksbury Interfaith Choir
-- Deacon, Tewksbury Congregational Church
-- Member, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) for Tewksbury
-- Runs/attends Tewksbury Health Fairs
-- 2012 Civic Excellence award recipient
-- Relationship with short & long term facilities in the town
For being named Wamesit Lanes Person of the Week, Virginia Desmond receives a gift card to Wamesit Lanes Family Entertainment Center.Virginia has lived in Tewksbury since 1968. She has raised a family of two girls. She is an “everyday” citizen who goes above and beyond for the residents of Tewksbury. Her commitment and personable nature is what makes her an exemplary woman and community member.
