By Bill Gilman
My name is Arthy Bennett and I’d be honored to have your vote for the Tewksbury School Committee on April 2nd. My work background along with my active involvement in our community and schools makes me well suited for the position.
My husband, Bob, and I are the proud parents of two teenage boys currently attending TMHS. When my oldest son entered kindergarten, over a decade ago, I became the treasurer of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and have never stopped helping in our schools. I have held and still hold various positions and memberships on school related committees. A few examples are: PAC boards, Tewksbury Education Foundation, School Council, Grant Committee, Principal Search, Superintendent Search and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) TMHS Accreditation Committee. For a full list of all my school and town involvement, I encourage you to visit my website: www.VoteArthyBennett.com.
I have earned both a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering. For the past 25 years, I have worked for GE Aviation on helicopter engines. I’m currently a Program Manager for multiple projects that contain numerous technical challenges, but also include rigid cost and schedule constraints. I’m responsible for reducing costs while maintaining our technical objectives; or “do more with less”. I believe these skills will be a real asset to the committee when we prepare to balance our school budget.
We have a strong school system that has many challenges in the years ahead. My goals would be:
• Provide a new perspective while advocating for the best education for all the children at all levels
• Ensure a smooth transition for the new superintendent
• Focus on academic achievement coupled with responsible fiscal management
• Promote high quality, cost effective educational programs
• Support enhancements in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM)
I’m a dedicated and knowledgeable community member that has the passion to do what’s best for all our children and our community. I ask for your vote on Saturday April 2nd, so I can continue to work hard to make the Tewksbury Schools the best they can be!
