To the Editor:
With three candidates vying for two Selectmen seats, Tewksbury is finally having a dialogue about what it means to serve on that Board.
What I know for sure is that we need to continue with the proven, dedicated, and pragmatic leadership of Todd Johnson.
I've been privileged to know Todd since his service on the Finance Committee, when he decided to run for Selectman at a time the town was facing massive budget cuts that significantly undermined the delivery of services and education. And that was before the Great Recession.
Todd led the town through a search for a new Town Manager, 9C cuts, sewer and water issues, efforts to improve development and investment by the private sector, bond ratings, and of course, the recession. He worked openly with the School Committee to try to minimize impacts to the residents, students, and school staff. Having such a strong ally on the Board of Selectmen, and an entire board dedicated to supporting our schools, made all the difference to me as a member of the School Committee at the time.
His leadership, with an emphasis on process, engaging professional expertise, and thoughtful decision making, helped the town land on the strong financial footing we enjoy today.
Todd consistently offers the voice of reason, common sense, and welcomes all voices into the conversation on any given issue. He brings an ethic of transparency and collaboration to municipal government, and isn't afraid to roll up his sleeves to serve the town.
Todd votes his conscience and has had to make tough decisions across numerous domains. I trust him implicitly and ask voters to join me in electing him once again.
