Rams, Redmen Roundup: TMHS Girls Claim State Relays Championship, Softball Team Wins 16-inning Epic

Division 3 State Coaches Relays

The Tewksbury High girls showed off their talent and depth with a victory at the Division 3 State Coaches Relay Meet in Burlington on Sunday.

The Redmen compiled 79 points, easily outdistancing Milton (60) and Pentucket (39).

Tewksbury got victories in the 4x100, pole vault and the Distance Medley, setting a new school record in the latter. The Redmen also got second place finishes in the 4x1600 (new school record) and 4x200 and a third place in the Sprint Medley.

The Tewksbury High boys placed fourth with 37 points, behind Burlington (69), Bishop Feehan (58) and Pembroke (38).

The Redmen took second place in the high jump and the 4x110 shuttle hurdles.



Tewksbury 8, Andover 6

In an epic game, sure to remembered for many years, Tewksbury (8-1) outlasted Andover, 8-6, in 16 innings. That's two full games plus two more innings.

Junior Adrianna Favreau went the distance in the circle for Tewksbury. She struck out 13 batters and issued just two walks in 16 innings of work. Favreau also had a solid game at the plate with three hits and two RBI.

Frankie Cocca played hero for the Redmen with an RBI single in the top of the 16th.

Marissa Doherty had three hits and scored a pair of runs to pace the Tewksbury offense. Kirsten Dick ripped a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. The Redmen also got RBIs from Kayla Vonkahle (three hits) and Nicole Petherbridge (two hits).

According to the latest ESPN Boston Softball Poll, Tewksbury is ranked No. 15 in Massachusetts.

The Redmen have gotten off to a rough start in 2016 but put things all together in a brilliant 16-3 win over Methuen.

Tyler Harvey scored five goals and added an assist to pace the Redmen offense. Jared Ward and Grant Callahan chipped in with two goals each for Tewksbury, which improved to 2-7. Brendan Sjostedt added a goal and two assists. Jackson DeRoche, Derek Schumaker and Robert Casey scored their first varsity goals.

Jake Marchant picked up the victory in net with 10 saves.

Tewksbury 17, Stoneham 11
Kelly Golini and Amanda Aylward scored five goals each to lead the Redmen past Stoneham.
Jocelyn Stavros added a pair of goals.
