WOBURN – On Saturday, September 10, hundreds of kids and their parents attended Back-to-School Safety Day hosted by Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Lahey Health and Winchester Hospital.  In total, nearly 250 kids explored over 50 different emergency vehicles, while having the opportunity to interact with public safety officials from local, state and federal agencies.  Additionally, Massachusetts State Police and local police departments performed 42 car seat installations and safety checks. Attendees at the event also visited a teddy bear clinic hosted by Winchester Hospital, viewed K-9 demonstrations by  specialty dogs and their law enforcement handlers, and visited the Mix 104.1 booth for free ice cream.

The event was part of Middlesex District Attorney Ryan’s efforts to raise awareness about safety issues surrounding back-to-school with parents, caretakers and children. With more than 233,000 children in Middlesex County beginning or returning to school, children are bound to confront a series of new challenges and unfamiliar experiences. District Attorney Ryan is urging parents to take a few minutes to talk about safety with their child, from safely traveling to and from school to being safe on the Internet.  Helpful tips are also available on our website by clicking here.
