Couple Arrested After Man Pulls Gun On State Trooper

Drugs, cash and a hand gun were seized by Massachusetts State Police during a motor vehicle stop in Tewksbury over the weekend.

A Westford woman and a Billerica man are facing multiple charges following their arrsts over the weekend by State Troopers in Tewksbury.
The incident began just after midnight on Saturday, Sept. 17, when a vehicle driven by Felisha Randolph, 22, was pulled over by Trooper 
Dan Purtell of the K9 Unit, on Andover Street (Route 133) in North Tewksbury.
During that stop, Trooper Purtell learned that the vehicle was a rental and neither the female operator nor her male passenger, were authorized to operate it.
According to a State Police report, when both occupants 
were removed from the vehicle, the male passenger, later identified as Joshua Jefferson, 32, pulled a handgun and a struggle ensued. Trooper Purtell was able to remove the firearm from the suspect and take him to the ground.
The suspect continued to resist until Trooper Purtell threatened release his partner, K9 Neko using his remote door popper. The suspect heeded the warning and was placed into custody as backup arrived from the Andover State Police Barracks and Tewksbury Police. 
According to the report, while searching the suspect, several bags of suspected heroin and cocaine were located in his pocket, along with cash.
Both suspects were placed under arrest and Trooper Purtell deployed K9 Neko on a narcotics search of the vehicle. Neko showed a positive alert under the front passenger’s seat where another bag of suspected cocaine was located wedged under the seat.
The female operator was charged with several offenses, including:
  • MV operator refusing to identify self to police
  • Operating after license suspension
  • Use of a MV without authority
  • Two default warrants for her arrest
  • Speeding
Jefferson was charged with:
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm without a license
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID card
  • Possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Possession with intent to distribute a class A substance
  • Possession with intent to distribute a class B substance
  • Resisting arrest
  • Failure to wear seatbelt
Both suspects were arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court.
