Middlesex DA Marian Ryan and Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan have identified Walter Johnston, 70 of Tewksbury, as the victim of a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Sunday, just before 6 p.m.

Johnston was struck by a pickup truck while crossing Shawsheen Street in the area of Apache Way. Johnston was tended to by emergency responders at the scene. He was then transported to Lowell General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to Police, the driver of the pickup truck, remained on scene following the crash and cooperated with investigators. The driver reported that Johnston ran out in front of his vehicle. The preliminary investigation suggests Johnston was not in a crosswalk, according to Ryan.  The Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation.  Ryan said the investigation is open and ongoing. However, no charges have been filed at this point.
