TMHS To Host Annual Meghan McCarthy Fashion Show

Nov 12, 2016 03:12PM ● By Bill Gilman
The Tewksbury Memorial High School Chapter of DECA will host the Annual Meghan McCarthy Fashion Show -- Dedicated 2 Fight 4 A Cure, on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in the McGrath Auditorium at Tewksbury High.
The event celebrates the life of Meghan Mary McCarthy, an outstanding student and athlete at Tewksbury High, who passed away in 2010, during her senior year, from Glioblastoma Multiforme.
The fashions featured in the show will be modeled by female and male TMHS students. The event is being coordinated by Katie Garcia.
Tickets to the event are $7 and all money raised will go to benefit the Meghan McCarthy Research Fund through Dana Farber, to provide money for research in high grade pediatric brain tumors and advance in a cure for all tumors. The fund was set up in 2011. This year, according to TMHS senior Rachel Bradley, more than $11,000 has been raised for the fund.
This will be the 8th annual fashion show at TMHS. The first came in 2009, to raise money for the
Pan Mass. Challenge, which several local riders were participating in, in Meghan's honor.
Meghan had been diagnosed originally during her freshman year. She battled her disease with strength and courage, sparking the phrase "Tewksbury Tough."
She was presented with her high school diploma a few days before she passed away, in January, 2010.
"The reason we chose this year Dedicated 2 Fight 4 A Cure being the name is "24" was Meg's basketball jersey number when she succumbed to her cancer," said Bradley.
