89 Tewksbury High students participated in the annual DECA/Meghan McCarthy Fashion Show last week.

Wicked Cornhole

For close to three decades, the Tewksbury High DECA program has run an annual fashion show as a fundraiser. But for the last seven years, the event has taken on extra significance, as a means of remembering a young woman whose heart and toughness exemplified all the best qualities of being a Redmen.
Last week, close to 600 people packed the McGrath Auditorium for the annual fashion show, which raised nearly $13,000 for the fight to find a cure for cancer.
McCarthy was a TMHS senior when she passed away in early 2010 from a brain tumor.  Just a few months prior to her death, she had proudly participated in the DECA Fashion show, with proceeds going to the fundraising efforts of "The Flying Henrys," who rode in her honor at the Pan Mass Challenge.
For the past six years, money raised has gone directly into the Meghan McCarthy Research Fund.
According to Rachel Bradley, who co-organized the event with fellow TMHS senior Katie Garcia, 89 students participated in this year's fashion show, all all-time high.
The event itself was a celebration of life, fashion, and what it means to be Tewksbury Tough. Among the speakers at the event were Lauren Scheipers and Sarah Hogan, two of McCarthy's classmates.
"That was a really big thing this year because less and less people participating knew Meghan personally," said Bradley. "It meant a lot to have two of her friends come and talk about who she was."
Avery special moment was provided by Marissa Doherty and Maeve Moynihan, who sang "Rise Up", while several local cancer survivors were excorted out on stage by TMHS students to be recognized for their courage and determination (VIDEO BELOW)
Clothing for the fashio show was provided by several Merrimack Valley boutiques and stores, including:
  • La Scala Bridal of Tewksbury
  • Men's Warehouse
  • Kohl's of Leominster
  • Glitteratti's of Danvers
  • The Ultimate of Peabody
  • Russo's Tux of Stoneham
  • Athena's Boutique in Dracut
