Storm Updates: Forecast Has Changed, Town Offices Shut Down

The blizzard that has been dubbed "Winter Storm Stella" has slammed into the Merrimack Valley, but she may have a nasty surprise for afternoon commuters.
The forecast, that had originally called for upwards of two feet of snow, has changed. The new forecast from the National weather service is calling for 12-17 inches of snow but changing over to sleet and freezing rain Tuesday afternoon.
In Dracut, Nathan Coram is reporting "Very poor visibility, strong winds, heavy snow ...  6.1" snow, rapid accumulation with very heavy snow."
Schools in Dracut, Tewksbury and throughout the state closed on Tuesday and all school-related activities have been cancelled or rescheduled.
Town offices, including the libraries and senior centers, in both Tewksbury and Dracut, are closed Tuesday. Many local businesses have also closed for the day.
Gov. Baker has not declared a travel ban. However, he has advised workers to work from home if possible. Also, all Massachusetts courts are closed today.
Trash pickup in both Tewksbury and Dracut is cancelled Tuesday. Dracut will pick up Wednesday. Tewksbury will pick up Thursday.
As of 12:30 p.m. no power outages had been reported in either Dracut or Tewksbury.

Here is the latest forecast for the Merrimack Valley from the National Weather Service:

Tuesday  Afternoon
Snow before 4pm, then snow and sleet. The snow and sleet could be heavy at times. Areas of blowing snow. Areas of dense freezing fog. High near 31. Blustery, with a northeast wind 17 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 11 to 17 inches possible.
Tuesday night
Snow showers, freezing rain, and sleet before 2am, then a slight chance of snow showers between 2am and 5am. The freezing rain could be heavy at times. Patchy fog before 8pm. Low around 21. North wind 13 to 18 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.
