A Tewksbury man will spend the next 2-3 years in prison, after admitting in Middlesex Superior Court that he drugged a woman's drink and raped her while she was unconscious.

Atty. Paul King

Richard Leone, 66, pleaded guilty to rape and drugging a person for sexual intercourse. In addition to the jail term, Leone was also sentenced to three years probation and will have to register as a sex offender on the State Registry for the rest of his life.

According to Middlesex County prosecutors, the crime took place on Jan. 5, 2016, when Leone slipped an unnamed medication into the drink of the victim. When she was incapacitated, Leone sexually assaulted her.

As part of the plea agreement, a charge of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14 was dropped.

Leone has also been ordered to have no contact with the victim and must undergo mental health evaluation.
