TEWKSBURY - Suzanne M. (Ducharme) Lumia, age 75, a former Tewksbury resident, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, July 5, at Merrimack Valley Nursing Home in Amesbury, after a courageous battle with dementia. She was the wife of the late James R. Lumia, who died in 1997, and mother of the late Anthony “Tony” Lumia who died in 2009.
She was born in Lowell, in March 1942, a daughter of the late Robert and Lorraine (Descheneaux) Ducharme, and raised and educated in Chelmsford. She earned an Associates Degree from Lowell Commercial College.
In her younger years she worked at the Banqueteer function hall in Chelmsford, which was owned by her parents. After her marriage, she moved to Tewksbury to raise her family, where she resided for twenty-two years. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in West Andover. She also was elected and served on the Town of Tewksbury’s Planning Board for nine years.
While raising her family, she worked as a civilian employee clerk and administrative assistant at Hanscom A.F.B., in the Milstar Division.
She retired to New Hampshire in 2004.
She leaves her daughter, Kim M. Silva of Atkinson, NH; two grandchildren, Ashley Silva of Hudson, NH and Michael Silva of Atkinson, NH; several nieces and nephews including Eric and Andrea Damato and their children, Joseph, Alyse, and Thomas; Danielle Johnston of CA, Michael Lumia of Dracut, Tina Kierce of Tewksbury, Dawn Monahan of NH, and Larry Lumia of Tewksbury; and was predeceased by her sister, Dianne Damato.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 11, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggets Pond Rd. Andover, MA. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.
