Home Lost To Fire Was Hiding Huge Marijuana Farm, Two Arrested

On June 11, the Tewksbury Police Department arrested Minh Phan, 36, of 11 Herbert St., Tewksbury, and Thao Nguyen, 35, of 2 Fisher Ter., Woburn for the unlawful manufacturing and cultivation of marijuana. 

The Tewksbury Police and Fire Departments responded to 11 Herbert St. for a report of a house fire.  Tewksbury Fire Department was able extinguish the flames, which fully engulfed the home.

 It was learned that there was a sophisticated marijuana growing operation in the basement of the home with numerous heat lamps and an irrigation system.  Tewksbury Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for the home, which was executed.    Evidence of marijuana in excess of 180 plants was located in the basement of the home. 

Both Phan and Nguyen were arrested.  No one was injured in the fire; however, the family dog died from apparent smoke inhalation.   The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Fire Marshal’s Office as well as the Tewksbury Fire Department.

 Both Phan and Nguyen were arraigned at Lowell District Court on June 11, 2018 and bail was set at $5,000 for Phan and $400 for Nguyen.  The next scheduled date in this case is July 27, 2018.
