Fright Night: An Evening with Paranormal Investigator Ron Kolek

Author Ron Kolek ("More Ghost Chronicles: Stories from the Realm of the Unknown, the Unexplained, and the Unbelievable") will provide a unique perspective into the lives of people touched by the paranormal. Ron, with his down to earth scientific approach, and his colleague Maureen, with her psychic insight, will share the results of some of their recent paranormal investigations conducted across New England. Ron is the founder and lead investigator of the New England Ghost Project and host of the Ghost Chronicles radio show. With a degree in environmental science, he was the ultimate skeptic until a near-death experience prompted him to use his scientific background to seek the truth about the paranormal. Halloween Concert For Adults with Jessica Mercy (*RR)

Enjoy a concert with the classically-trained duo of Jessica Mercy and Sergio Salvucci, featuring some frights and musical delights, as they play you through the decades of Halloween. Jessica, well-known for fusing opera with rock and pop, is the lead singer of several bands, including "Anaria" and "Walking Gray." She co-founded the Celtic new age project, "To The Ancients," with her fiancée and accompanist, Sergio Saluvcci. The audience is encouraged to come in costume. (Robert will be in costume.) Lunchtime Lecture: Get Help With Your Civil Legal Problems (*RR)

Crime victims often experience difficult legal problems that can’t be solved through the criminal law system. That's where The Civil Legal Aid for Victims of Crime Initiative comes in. Meet representatives from the CLVAC, which helps victims of crime throughout Massachusetts with their civil legal problems, including family law, housing, immigration, disability rights, child welfare, education, consumer, identity theft, employment rights, and public benefits. Author Peter Cristofono ("Rockhounding New England: A Guide to 100 of the Region's Best Rockhounding Sites") will introduce you to the 275 minerals that can be found in Massachusetts and the best places to find them. Specimens of different minerals will be on display, and attendees are encouraged to bring specimens for identification. Peter - who has been an avid field collector of New England minerals, gems and fossils for more than 35 years - has served as president of the Boston Mineral Club and is currently a director of the Micromounters of New England. Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood's newest DVD releases -- Solo: A Star Wars Story, a sci-fi action adventure starring Alden Ehrenreich & Woody Harrelson. During an adventure into the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion. Rated PG-13. 135 minutes. Tiny Tykes Story Time

For young children ages 0 to 18 months. Older siblings are always welcome to join in! Join us for a fun session of stories, songs, fingerplays, instruments, and gentle movement that help build early literacy skills. Please note, we have 2 sessions that are the same, one is at 10:15am and the other is at 11:00am. There is no registration, HOWEVER, there is limited space in the room. Please check in at the Children's desk upon arrival to check to see if there is still room available in the session.

Trick Or Treating

Children of all ages are encouraged to come to the Library in costume on Halloween and trick or treat at all of our service desks--the Front desk, the Children's desk, the Teen desk and the Reference desk. Treats will be available at all of the desks. No registration is required and this will go on all day!
Thursday, November 1, 10:15am & 11am
For 2 year olds (ages 18 months and up). Get your early literacy skills on with stories, songs, movement, instruments, dancing and more! No registration required, HOWEVER, there is limited space in the room. Please check in at the Children's desk upon arrival to grab a token and ensure there is space in the story time.
