According to one witness, the search team included K9 units.
Tewksbury town and police officials confirmed the presence of the search team but would not provide any details on its reason for being there.
However, Police Chief Timothy Sheehan was clear that the search was not related to the recent disappearance of Yessenia Roman. The 27-year-old woman was last seen on Dec. 14, when she left Tewksbury Hospital by taxi, headed toward Lawrence.
"The activity you are referring to is connected to an ongoing DA’s investigation not linked to a recent incident. To protect the integrity of the investigation no additional information is being released at this time," said Sheehan, in an e-mail response to an inquiry on the search. "One thing I can tell you is that the safety and security of all those that populate Tewksbury is the number one priority of the Tewksbury Police Department and this ongoing investigation presents no imminent danger to the community."
An e-mail inquiry submitted to the Office of Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan was not immediately responded to.
