Freshman state representatives David Robertson (D-19th Middlesex) and Tram Nguyen (D-18th Essex) were sworn into office Wednesday, along with freshman (sort of) state Sen. Barry Finegold (D-2nd Essex-Middlesex).
In terms of seniority, Finegold is technically a rookie, although he had previously served two terms in office (2011-2015) before an unsuccessful run for State Treasurer.
Robertson, of Tewksbury, succeeds his former boss, the late Jim Miceli, who passed away in April, having represented Tewksbury and Wilmington for nearly four decades.
Nguyen pulled off one of the big upsets of 2018, when she defeated three-term Republican incumbent Jim Lyons.
Meanwhile, several hundred miles to the south, Congressman Seth Moulton, D-6th MA, began his third term in Washington.
A look at the social media postings of the legislators gives a peek into how they spent their day.
Started from the bottom, now we're here. We came to this country with $100 to our name & now I'm the first Vietnamese American woman elected to the MA State House. I've been so blessed with so many opportunities & I'm committed to making these opportunities available to others. pic.twitter.com/kRGJ62bC0Q— Tram T. Nguyen (@TeamTram) January 2, 2019
I officially took the oath of office. I'm so honored to have the opportunity to serve. I couldn't have gotten here without my amazing family, friends, and supporters. Thank you for giving me this privilege to represent the 18th Essex District. #mapoli #191stlegislativesession pic.twitter.com/NGxmtjWFdG— Tram T. Nguyen (@TeamTram) January 2, 2019
Bringing the whole family to work with me today. Ceremony starts at 11. There's limited public seating outside the House Chamber on third floor and the Gallery on the fourth floor. Hope to see you there. #191legislativesession pic.twitter.com/ypuR9yKyvJ— Tram T. Nguyen (@TeamTram) January 2, 2019
We made it, folks. I'm officially the State Representative for Massachusetts' 19th Middlesex district. Thank you all so much for your dedication to my campaign. Without your support, I wouldn't be here today. With that said, let's get to work! pic.twitter.com/WV1EAyuAdT— Dave Robertson for State Representative (@RobertsonForRep) January 2, 2019
I am so excited to once again represent the people of Andover, Dracut, Lawrence and Tewksbury in the Senate. Stay tuned for staff introductions and contact info for our office so that constituents can reach out with any questions or needs. Let’s get to work!— Barry Finegold (@Barry_Finegold) January 3, 2019
It’s an absolute honor to once again be sworn into office as the State Senator from the 2nd Essex & Middlesex district. My wife, children and parents joined me on the floor of the Senate Chamber, and my son Max was pretty sure he was getting sworn into office too... pic.twitter.com/TB12mIIu9K— Barry Finegold (@Barry_Finegold) January 3, 2019
