(Editor's Note: the following information was provided by the SilverTones.)On the “3rd Friday,” Jan 18, Tewksbury’s Very Own Big Band, the SilverTones, will play for Listening and dancing in the large hall at the beautiful Tewksbury Senior Center for its 200th performance.
Since its formation in 2001 by the late guitarist/show producer-director Tom MacPherson, the group has grown from 6 to 20 members, and now, because of its size, plays mainly in larger venues. Its performance history includes many area nursing homes, dance halls, and bandstands as far away as York Beach, Maine.
After Tom , our long-time leader was retired TMHS Music Director Roger Whittlesey, and for the past 4 years saxophonist MaryBeth Foley-Cummings. Our present vocalist is BB Braxten, retired director of the “Liberty Belles,” an a capella group. Most members of the band are professional musicians and have been with the SilverTones well over a dozen years, including Sheldon Chandler and Barbara Flanagan, original members since 2001.
Come join the fun, and peruse the collection of Albums, photos, and news articles that the SilverTones has amassed in its nearly 18 years. Bring along your favorite beverages and snacks, enjoy cake and coffee, take a chance on a 50/50 raffle or win a door prize (2 free admissions), and hear what a Big Band really sounds like!
