Maverick's Owners Surrender Licenses, Restaurant Closes Permanently

Feb 08, 2019 03:50PM ● By Bill Gilman

Maverick's Bar and Grille is closed permanently.

The sign outside Maverick's Bar and Grille says "Closed for Renovations." But town officials have confirmed that the owners of the South Tewksbury restaurant have surrendered their various business licenses and have closed permanently.
Town Manager Richard Montuori confirmed that a representative of Route 38 entertainment, Inc., which operates Maverick's, had surrendered the restaurant's licenses this week, including its common victualler license and its liquor license.
Representatives of ownership had been scheduled to appear before the Board of Selectmen on Monday, Feb. 11 for a show cause hearing, due to delinquent taxes. According to a source with knowledge of the case, March and Main Realty Trust, the entity which owns the building and property at 2212 Main St. owes the town approximately $42,000.
Maverick's first opened for business in 1997, under the ownership of Richard Proctor. It has been operated by various members of the Proctor family in the years since.
However, over the past several years, the business has been summonsed to appear before the Board of Selectmen several times due to complaints from neighbors about noise and the behavior of customers in the early morning hours. Issues over delinquent taxes and water/sewer fees have come up nearly every year for the past decade.
In past years, under threat of having their licenses revoked or suspended, owners have made 11th hour payments to the town.
It remains to be seen what March and Main Realty Trust Intends to do with the property. Nothing can happen until the issue of the delinquent taxes is dealt with. Once that happens, the property could be sold or it could be leased to a management company looking to use it for some type of business.
The show cause hearing is still on the Board of Selectmen docket for the Feb. 11 meeting.
