Election 2019: Business Picks Up, As School Committee And Planning Board Attract New Candidates

Feb 12, 2019 12:19PM ● By Bill Gilman

And just like that, the 2019 Tewksbury Municipal Election has gotten even more interesting.

For a time, it appeared that the School Committee and Planning Board races might be uncontested. But that changed this past week with new candidates pulling nomination papers.

With two incumbent school committee members not seeking re-election, the race is wide open. Erin Knyff and John Stadtman had already declared their candidacies. But this past week, nomination papers were taken out by Shannon Demes.

For a 5-year term on the Planning Board, it appears that incumbent Vin Fratalia will now face a challenger in the person of James Mackey.

Town Clerk Denise Graffeo also released a key piece of information this week. Acting on a recommendation from the Secretary of State, the deadline for submitting nomination sheets has been moved from Feb. 19 to Friday, Feb. 15. This will present a time crunch for the candidates most recently taking out papers.
