The Tewksbury Jr. Redmen Squirt AAA Hockey Team skated in the Massachusetts Squirt Tier II State Championship Tournament this past weekend at the Olympia Ice Center in Springfield, MA.  The Jr. Redmen entered the tourney with an overall record of 30-12-3.

The Jr. Redmen went 2-1 through the preliminary round of the tourney.  The Jr. Redmen opened up the tourney with a tough 3-2 loss on Friday evening against Shrewsbury.  The Jr. Redmen battled back on Saturday morning with a 10-2 win over Lower Cape and a 6-1 win over Medfield on Saturday afternoon.  The 2-1 record qualified the Jr. Redmen to play in the State Semi-finals on Sunday morning against a very strong, well-coached Burlington team.  Burlington jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but the never-say-die Jr. Redmen battled back and left the rink with a 3-2 win, and a spot in the State Championship Game.

The State Championship Game was a rematch against Shrewsbury and once again was a classic back & forth battle between 2 evenly matched teams.  The Jr. Redmen took a 1-0 lead after the 1st period but Shrewsbury tied the game early in the 2nd period.  Trailing 3-1, the Jr. Redmen fought back to tie the game 3-3 with just over 5 minutes to play in the game.   Shrewsbury scored with just over 2 minutes to play in the game on a funky bounce in front of the Jr. Redmen net.  The Jr. Redmen pulled their goalie late in the game and had a handful of chances to tie the game but came up just short.

A great weekend of hockey for a great group of kids.  The kids would like to thank their parents for all of the great signs and all of the cheering.  And a special thanks to Larry!!
