Letter: Rep. Nguyen’s Celebrates Social Work Month

To The Editor:
This March, in honor of Social Work Month, our office is celebrating social workers and highlighting the invaluable services they provide to the 18th Essex District specifically and the Commonwealth generally.
As an elected official, I often field concerns from constituents who struggle with aging in place, public benefits, accessing healthcare, navigating complicated administrative agencies, housing, and more. We are grateful that we are able to connect them to organizations and agencies that employ social workers to provide the case management, crisis intervention, and holistic assistance community members need.
In my previous work as a legal aid attorney, I often worked closely with social workers and was struck by the range of their skillset, a testament to the hours they dedicate to education and training. Specifically, I coordinated a project to help victims of crime, from workers battling wage theft to victims of domestic violence seeking safety to seniors dealing with consumer fraud. I often turned to social workers to provide additional resources to help my clients move on with their lives, even long after the court cases are over.
I want to personally extend my gratitude to all social workers, especially in my district, for choosing a career that does not always get the recognition it deserves. Your services do not go unnoticed and I remain committed to elevating and highlighting your work every day on Beacon Hill. I look forward to continuing to promote and pass legislation that advances social work professional practice. Happy Social Work Month!
State Rep. Tram Nguyen
