With the motto of "thoughtful entertainment," Kanopy provides Tewksbury patrons with access to films of unique social and cultural value; films that are often difficult or impossible to access elsewhere, and programming that features diversity, with a wide array of foreign language films and films on race, and current affairs.

“The Tewksbury Library’s physical collection has more than 8,000 titles on DVD and blu-ray, but we felt it was important to also offer our patrons a streaming service for films, especially a service that features a lot of films not typically found in libraries,” said Community Services Librarian Robert Hayes. “Each of our patrons will be able to stream up to 10 films per month on Kanopy, with more than 30,000 to choose from. There are no wait lists. It’s click and play.”

“We believe Kanopy will fit in nicely with our existing digital services, including Freegal (for Music), Rbdigital (for Magazines), and Overdrive (for eBooks, Audiobooks, and Magazines),” added Reference Librarian Rachel Hellman. “It’s easy to sign up and use, but if any patron encounters a problem or has a question, they can contact me at 978-640-4490 x 207 or rhellman@tewksburypl.org.”

Kanopy is currently in 4,000 public and academic libraries worldwide, with more than 5 million users streaming the most acclaimed movies and documentaries from award-winning filmmakers, and experiencing the best in independent, classic film, and world cinema.
