WORCESTER -- The varsity eight from the rowing team, which includes Eva Barinelli, has been tabbed as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 14th.

A very rare back-to-back honoree, Melissa Bazakas-Chamberlain, Christine Hovermale, Kinsey McNamara, Marlies de Jong, Amelia Harvey, Rachel Lia, Caitlin Kean, Eva Barinelli and coxswain Madison Healey, completed a memorable weekend Sunday by defeating top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Bates in thrilling fashion on Lake Quinsigamond. The race came down to the final 10 strokes with WPI claiming the victory by just 0.34 seconds over Bates (6:37.40 to 6:37.74). The Engineers, second in the latest USRowing/CRCA Division III Top 15, also knocked off No. 3 Williams to take home the Donahue Cup on Saturday.

Melissa Bazakas-Chamberlain, Christine Hovermale, Kinsey McNamara, Marlies de Jong, Amelia Harvey, Rachel Lia, Caitlin Kean, Eva Barinelli and coxswain Madison Healey completed a memorable weekend Sunday by defeating then-top-ranked Bates in thrilling fashion on Lake Quinsigamond. The race came down to the final 10 strokes with WPI claiming the victory by just 0.34 seconds over the Bobcats (6:37.40 to 6:37.74).

The Engineers also knocked off then-No. 3 Williams to take home the Donahue Cup for the first time since 2004 on Saturday. The Bobcats and Ephs were the only two Division III teams to best the Crimson and Gray this past Fall as the three crews were first, second and third, respectively, at the Head of The Charles.
