David Sheehan Of Tewksbury Receives Lasell College Athletic Award
NEWTON -- Lasell College Athletics honored its 56 senior student-athletes for their success and accomplishments at the Annual Awards Banquet Monday night at the Boston-Newton Crowne Plaza.
Director of Athletics Kristy Walter presented annual Athlete of the Year and Torchbearer Awards to five deserving individuals, and Faculty Athletic Representative Janice Savitz presented the Male and Female Scholar-Athlete Awards.
Senior men's lacrosse player David Sheehan of Tewksbury (01876) was presented with the Torchbearer Award, which are given to student-athletes in their final season of eligibility who have excelled on the playing field and in the classroom, while making a positive impact on the Lasell Community. The recipients of this award are individuals who exemplify leadership, team spirit, ability and character..
Sheehan started every single Lasell men's lacrosse game the past four years. He is two-year captain and the leader of the Lasell Defense, which is statistically ranked #6 in division III. He was named this year's GNAC Defensive Player of the Year, earning his third All-GNAC selection and second straight First Team nod. He led the GNAC and ranked 29th nationally with 44 caused turnovers, and has the all-time single season and career records for caused turnovers at Lasell. His 165 career caused turnovers ranks in the top 10 in the NCAA Division III career record book. He helped lead the team to three regular season GNAC Titles, two GNAC championship appearances and one GNAC Title. Off the field, he has spearheaded numerous exercises around Domestic and Sexual violence training, not only for his team, but for the Lasell Community. He was also recently selected as a finalist for the One Love Foundation Unsung Hero award. He is a three-time member of the Dean's list and he will graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice.
