ANDOVER — State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are investigating a single-car fatal crash on Interstate 93 on Saturday afternoon that took the life of a 16-year-old Tewksbury.

Preliminary investigation by State Trooper David Bergeron indicates that at about 5 p.m., the teen was traveling on Route 93 Northbound, north of Route 495 in Andover in a 2018 Mitsubishi SUV.  For reasons still under investigation, the operator lost control of the vehicle, causing it to travel off the right side of the roadway before rolling over and crashing into a signpost.

The operator, who was the sole occupant, was initially transported to Lawrence General Hospital before being transferred to Leahy Hospital in Burlington for treatment of serious injuries.

State police did not release the boy’s identity.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.  No charges have been filed at this time.
