Water Main Replacement To Take Up To Four Months In Woburn Street Area

Sep 05, 2019 06:37PM

Work will be performed during the daytime hours of 7:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., and traffic flow will be maintained throughout the project.

The Town of Tewksbury under contract with Cedrone Trucking, Inc. (Contractor) is replacing the existing water mains on all or portions of the following streets:

  • Elm Avenue, from Lowell Street to Felker Street.
  • Felker Street, from Forest Avenue to Greenwood Avenue.
  • Forest Avenue, from Woburn Street to Felker Street.
  • Highland Avenue, from Lowell Street to end of cul-de-sac.
  • Lowell Street, from Elm Avenue to Forest Avenue, and from Greenwood Avenue to Park Avenue.
  • North Billerica Road, from James Avenue to Park Avenue and beyond.
  • Park Avenue, from Woburn Street to Lowell Street.
  • Woburn Street, from Greenwood Avenue to Park Avenue.
At this time, the project is estimated to take approximately four months to complete.

Please note that the work will be performed during the daytime hours of 7:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., and traffic flow will be maintained throughout the project.  However, residents are asked to drive extremely slowly when entering/exiting the project area.  In addition, residents are asked to plan ahead in order to limit the number of trips in and out of the area to allow construction to progress as quickly as possible.

The Contractor has begun construction work along Woburn Street.  Once completed, the Contractor will move over to Lowell Street and then North Billerica Road followed by the remaining side streets.

Please be advised that as the work progresses, there may be temporary interruptions to water service (usually 4 hours or less) so that the new water mains can be put into service.  If a temporary water shutdown is required, then you will receive notice of the shutdown a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

For most of the streets, the Contractor plans to install the new water mains, pressure test and chlorinate, transfer over the water services, and then abandon the old water mains.  However, there may be some streets that require the installation of temporary bypass water piping and service connections (usually blue/black plastic pipe and hoses) to all the homes serviced by the existing water main.  If a temporary bypass is required, then you will be notified in advance of the steps involved with transferring your water service to the temporary bypass.
