Tewksbury Voters To Gather Tuesday Night For Special Town Meeting
Oct 01, 2019 01:16AM
● By Bill Gilman
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium.
There are just 21 articles on the warrant, which could make for swift work. However, there are three general bylaw articles and four zoning bylaw articles on the warrant and they always tend to generate spirited debate.
Most of the spending items on the warrant are routine, though some call for transfers and payments in the millions of dollars, pertaining to the new communications center on Whipple Road and the new Center Fire Station.
While still on the warrant, an article pertaining to a proposed zoning change for a parcel of land on Chandler Street is expected to be withdrawn.
One article that could gain some attention is Article 15, which calls for stiffening the penalties associated with violating the town's Leash Law. Right now, the first offense is a warning, fines starting at $50 and elevating to $100 for the 4th and subsequent offences.
Article 15 would provide for no warning but calls for a fine of $50 for the 1st offense, $100 for 2nd, $300 for the 3rd and $500 for the 4th and subsequent offense.
Article 14 asks voters to give approval to the town to sell 11 parcels of land with a total combined value of more than $500,000.
The full warrant for the 2019 Fall Special Town Meeting can be found in a PDF file attached to this article. Also attached, you will find a PDF with additional important for voters to have, heading into the meeting.
