Tewksbury Memorial High School named Megan Cunningham and Victoria Schille as the Salutatorian and Valedictorian of the graduating class of 2020.

Both the valedictorian and salutatorian gave speeches in the pre-recorded graduation ceremony that was premiered on TewksburyTV’s YouTube channel on Friday, June 5th, to mark the day that the 230 graduates would have walked the stage, if not for COVID-19. Both students donned their caps and gowns and spoke of their graduating class, and some of the memories they had. A particular highlight being when Megan Cunningham spoke of the TMHS “clappers”, a group of senior boys that would start random rounds of applause in school assemblies or burst into classrooms. Considering that the faculty speaker, Mr. Conner Bourgoin, was often the victim of many of these “clapper invasions” in his room, Megan brought what was perhaps a needed laugh during this bittersweet virtual occasion.

Megan Cunningham, the Salutatorian, will be going to the University of Connecticut and double majoring in Engineering and Neuroscience. Megan has been an active member of the TMHS band, color guard, and National Honors Society. She has been playing trumpet since she was 5. Megan even got accepted into the Spartan Drum and Bugle Corp in her junior year. She was adored by peers and teachers alike and her spirit and passion will be missed by her school community.

Victoria Schille, the Valedictorian, is headed off to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst this upcoming fall, where she will be studying neuroscience. In high school, Victoria played on the TMHS field hockey team and the ice hockey team, the Red Rangers. She also served as the Class of 2020 Class President, where she helped her fellow officers and advisors plan and fundraise for events such as junior prom, senior prom and senior week. She also served as the treasurer of her school’s DECA chapter. She has competed with fellow graduates Colby Brown and Rebecca Defrancesco at state and national conferences. During her time in DECA, she coordinated the 10th Annual DECA fashion show fundraiser. This year, DECA aimed to raise $13,000 for the Meghan McCarthy Research fund at the Dana Farber Institute, and they smashed that goal by raising $16,116 for the fund. She also received the Principal’s Choice Award, presented by now-former Principal Kristen Vogel. This award was presented at graduation and was presented to Schille for her academic excellence and passion for extracurriculars.

The full graduation ceremony can be found on the YouTube channel TewksburyTV, at this link: And the speeches from Megan and Victoria can be found at the timestamps of 1:00:35 and 1:02:36.

Congratulations Megan and Victoria, and good luck in your future endeavors.
